CASE STUDY: LEGO $1.3 BILLION FACTORY

In late 2022, LEGO began construction of its largest and most advanced factory globally, valued at $1.4 billion, in Vietnam. A critical component of the project involved importing IT systems, including cryptographic and cybersecurity equipment—categories subject to strict import controls under Vietnamese law.

As LEGO’s local team was newly established and unfamiliar with these regulations, ExtendMax stepped in to serve as the Importer of Record (IOR) and provide comprehensive regulatory consulting. ExtendMax:

>>> Advised on HS code classification and determined applicable licenses and conformity standards;

>>> Managed customs clearance and legal filings, including licensing procedures for civil cryptography;

>>> Coordinated with suppliers and testing laboratories to prepare and validate all required documentation.

Thanks to ExtendMax’s rapid and accurate execution, millions of dollars worth of IT equipment were successfully imported on schedule, avoiding costly project delays and regulatory risk.

ABOUT THE GLOBAL BRAND AWARDS AND GLOBAL BRANDS MAGAZINE

Global Brands Magazine (GBM) is one of the world’s most prestigious publications, headquartered in the United Kingdom. The magazine is renowned for evaluating and honoring outstanding global brands across various industries, including finance, technology, logistics, consumer goods, education, and professional services. GBM is highly regarded by industry experts thanks to its rigorous, transparent, and independent selection process. The awards’ judging panel comprises seasoned international experts in each sector, ensuring objectivity and credibility in every decision.

Launched in 2013, the Global Brand Awards is GBM’s annual awards program, recognizing brands that demonstrate sustainable growth strategies, operational innovation, and real impact in their respective industries. Each year, the program receives thousands of nominations from more than 60 countries and territories. However, only a select few brands that truly stand out in terms of performance, reputation, and influence are chosen for recognition.

At the 2024 awards ceremony held in Bangkok, Mr. Jay Reddy, CEO of Global Brands Magazine, shared:

“This year’s awards process was rigorous and over 20,000 companies were evaluated across various categories. It’s a privilege to host the winners of these awards under one roof. Their commitment to fostering lasting brand value through customer satisfaction is truly admirable. We extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the deserving winners.”

In Vietnam, only a limited number of enterprises have received the Global Brand Awards. Those that do must demonstrate exceptional brand positioning, strategic execution, and operational excellence. Notable past Vietnamese winners include Vinamilk, Vietnam Airlines, MB Bank, HD Bank, TH True Milk, and ExtendMax.

In 2024, ExtendMax was honored for the first time by GBM with the title Best Regulatory Compliance Consulting Firm Vietnam, marking a significant milestone for a Vietnamese company in the field of legal and regulatory consulting for product conformity. In 2025, ExtendMax maintained its strong performance and was honored once again—this time with the title “Best IOR & EOR Services Provider of the Year”, making it one of the few Vietnamese companies to win back-to-back Global Brand Awards.

Surpassing hundreds of international nominees, ExtendMax’s victory is not only a testament to its professional excellence recognized by global experts but also a proud moment for Vietnam’s legal compliance, certification, and import-export service industry. It affirms that Vietnamese enterprises are fully capable of competing and delivering services at a global standard.
